We all need to lift: Dixon

Highlanders hooker Ash Dixon is looking for a big two weeks.

After a less than successful trip to Africa the side is now back at home and ready to face the Bulls under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

"We get to be back at home and a real pleasure to be back here in front of our own fans,'' he said.

"It is the last game here for a couple of the boys so it is pretty sad, but in saying that they have left a massive legacy. What we can control is our performance and show how much they mean to us so that is what we going to try and do.''

Consistency is what the side is searching for. One week the attack may be good but the defence lapses while the next week it could be the other way round or the kick-offs go haywire.

"It is hard to really pinpoint one thing. But if everyone can give about 5% more each then I'm sure we can put in a good performance we can be proud of.

"There is an old saying that you know when you have not done well for the season, come summer and there are rocks under your towels. So the [bye] week was a bit like that.''

He said the week off last week was good for players as it refreshed them and Dixon went to Wanaka to rest the batteries and catch up on some sleep.

The Bulls are a big, physical side and Dixon knew what was coming.

"They don't produce them very small. There are some big humans who are going to be running straight down the front door. But you know what you are going to get so you have to prepare accordingly.''

Dixon (30) said the side needed to get its game plan right and everyone had to be on the same page.

"I think we know when we get our footy right we are pretty hard to stop. But there has not been enough of it this year. There has been some good first-half footy but [the team had been] missing out at the back end of games.''

He said the onus was on players to do better.

"It is not just one person or one thing. It is all of us at times are not doing what we are supposed to do and nailing their roles.

"If we did manage to get a chance a couple of weeks down the track and it is finals footy ... anything can happen then. But it is just about this week and what we can do.''

Dixon, who is off contract at the end of the season, said he has not decided what he will do next season.
