Rugby: Breakfast of champions

Imagine starting the day with bacon and eggs, while listening to All Black coach Graham Henry and captain Richie McCaw talk about leadership.

More than 100 pupils from 23 Otago secondary schools will begin July 7 exactly like that. Well, some of them may opt for cornflakes or toast.

Henry and McCaw are the guests invited to speak at the regular Otago Secondary Sports Association's captains' breakfast.

The pair will be in Dunedin to prepare for the All Blacks-Springboks Tri-Nations match at Carisbrook on July 12.

Regional secondary school sports director Des Smith said it was a coup to attract the likes of Henry and McCaw.

"What I want them to talk about is how they manage leadership within the All Blacks," Smith said.

"The whole focus of the breakfasts is leadership, so it fits really nicely that they have a system they use in terms of a group leadership."

Breakfast is served for invited guests at the Alhambra-Union clubrooms from 7.45am.
