"We didn't have training so I stayed indoors for a couple of days and tried to keep warm," he said.
"Once it stopped snowing, it froze and made driving difficult. It hasn't gone away. The footpaths are still covered in snow."
The Crusaders and South Island flanker felt safe when he arrived in Dunedin yesterday for the interisland game because most of this week's snow had vanished.
Todd was 7 and living in his home town of Kaiapoi when the last interisland game was played in 1995.
"I've heard about the games being All Black trials but I can't remember watching them," Todd said.
"It's good to have it back. I'd like it to have a permanent spot each season. It's something to look forward to."
Both teams are keen to play at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
"It will be a dry track and I'm sure we will play a good style of footy," Todd said.
This will be Todd's third game at the covered stadium.
He played for Canterbury in the ITM Cup last season and for the Crusaders in this year's Super 15 clash against the Highlanders.
"It's an awesome place to play rugby," he said. "Christchurch is trying to get one too.
It's the benchmark for rugby stadiums.
"You know what you are preparing for and what the conditions will be like. But you still have to do the basics well."
The dynamic openside flanker has been on the verge of All Black selection for the past two years and was unlucky to miss selection for the Irish series.
"It is my ambition," he said.
"But it is part of footy and you just have to keep working hard. There is still plenty of footy to be played this year and l'm just focusing on that."
Richie McCaw and Josh Kronfeld are the openside flankers Todd has followed.
"Richie is the best there is and to work alongside him has been beneficial for me," he said.
"I observe what he does and see what works for him. I see Richie at work day by day and week by week as he prepares for games.
"It's good to have him around to bounce ideas off and learn from."
The Crusaders hit top form when they beat the Highlanders 51-18 last weekend.
"We got our attitude right and fronted from the start of the game," he said.
"We executed our plan and were able to play our own game.
"Earlier in the season, we didn't do that, and at pressure times we made costly mistakes."
