The Mt Aspiring College First XV achieved one of its season goals after a 22-21 win over Kavanagh College in Wanaka.
Coach Hamish Crosbie said beating the two Dunedin co educational schools was one of the team's main aims at the start of the season, and now the side was setting its sights on another item to tick off the list.
''We hoped that we would beat Taieri and Kavanagh,'' he said.
''Now we've got John McGlashan, King's, Waitaki Boys and St Kevin's _ we'd be happy if we get a win out of one of those games.''
Mt Aspiring was looking comfortable for much of the game, taking a 7-0 lead into the sheds at halftime and stretching the scoreline to 22-7 before a late comeback by Kavanagh in the last five minutes produced two tries.
''The boys just thought they had the game won and took their foot off but admittedly Kavanagh scored two good tries,'' he said.
Crosbie praised his team's forwards - led by lock Toby Lee and No 8 Teegan Vink with two tries each - along with the defence.
''Their scrum was probably a bit stronger than ours, but our lineout was good,'' he said.
''We managed to make the advantage line a lot of the time. They had a lot of big guys who tried to run over us, but our guys defended pretty well.''
South Otago High School remains unbeaten after a 40-24 win over King's High School, while Dunstan High School moved to a four win one loss record with a 53-12 win over Taieri College.
The Otago Boys' High School Second XV took care of St Kevin's College 53-17, and John McGlashan College overcame Waitaki Boys' High School with a 42-8 win.
