Rugby: University A retains Gallaway Trophy

University A retained the Gallaway Trophy for a second consecutive season and with it top billing going into the championship rounds beginning with quarterfinal matched next weekend.

University scored a convincing 48-10 victory over Pirates to win the Gallaway Trophy competition with 55 points.

Kaikorai's 10-nil victory over Zingari Richmond, at Bishopscourt, not only secured the Tom Watkins Memorial, but cemented it in second place on 53 points.

Southern and Dunedin fought out a 28-all draw in the Ron Reggett Memorial match at Bathgate Park. Southern saved on the bell by a try through Warren Moffat, playing his 100th game to finish third on 50 points. But Dunedin, who finished fifth on 37 points, retain the Reggett Trophy for a further year as current holders.

Alhambra-Union put together a mixed bag to defeat Green Island 29-5 at the North Ground, and finish fourth with 43 points. While Harbour put together a nine-try blitz of University B to gain the sixth spot, completing the top six play-off contenders with 34 points.

The draw for next weekend's quarterfinal will see University A play Harbour, Kaikorai play Dunedin and Southern play Alhambra-Union.
