Valley produced a superb defensive performance to claim the Citizens Shield with a 14-12 win against Athletic in the North Otago club rugby final in Oamaru today.
Both sides had plenty of opportunities to score more points with the boot but the standard of goal-kicking was poor.
The key moments in the game were the last 10 minutes in each half, with Athletic dominating possession but unable to break through the resolute Valley defence.
