King's reign

King's High School First XV second five-eighth Giovani Leituala scored a try and kicked the winning penalty to help his side beat John McGlashan College First XV 10-8 in the final of the Otago Premier Schools competition.

A big crowd of about 1500 people turned out for the match at Hancock Park on Saturday afternoon and were treated to some tough rugby.

King's was forced to do a lot of defending in the second half after leading 7-5 at the break.

Leituala had scored and converted after McGlashan opened the scoring through lock Charlie Davies.

McGlashan's pack had the better of the second spell, but could not penetrate King's defence.

Hunter Cleland slotted a penalty to put his side in front, but Leituala nailed the winner with about five minutes to go.

Previous matches: King’s won both games, 25-22 and 22-15.
