Secondary, junior competitions to resume

Secondary school and junior rugby is back on.

It was canned last weekend due to the rise to Covid-19 Alert Level 2.

But the competitions will resume this week, although you might want to have a close look at the draw for junior rugby as the times and grounds are different from the usual weekly draw.

There are some 9am starts which might catch a few out.

The Otago Premier Schools competition matches were called off last weekend as well.

Otago Secondary Schools Rugby Council chairman Greg Heller said the match committee was meeting last night but his expectation was those games were unlikely to be rescheduled.

"We are working through it at the moment but effectively we’ve cancelled the round," he said.

"In accordance with our competition rules, if there is a cancelled round in the second round-robin then it is not played.

"We are on tight time lines anyway.

"We’ve got two rounds left and then we move into semis and finals and we are locked in by the final we have booked in for Forsyth Barr Stadium on the 12th of September."

The rest of secondary school rugby resumes on Saturday as well, although there is one midweek game.

In the intermediate grade, Otago Boys’ White under-15 is scheduled to play Taieri Colts at Logan Park No6
tonight.

Premier rugby will continue as it did last weekend.

People are being urged not to attend as crowds of more than 100 are in breach of the restrictions under Level 2.
