The Black Ferns Sevens have paid a high price for three opening day wins at the Dubai sevens with at least two players ruled out of the rest of the tournament.

Niall Williams and Shakira Baker are definitely out of the quarter-final against South Africa with respective head and knee knocks while Tenika Willison is also in doubt with a head knock.

The injuries took the gloss off three encouraging performances with Michaela Blyde leading the way by scoring five tries at the opening tournament of the women's series.

Ireland were dispatched 27-5, Fiji were downed 19-10 and France, after a hat- trick to Blyde, were thrashed 31-0.

NZ topped pool B while defending champions Australia were also unbeaten to head pool A.
