McLachlan entered in US Open

Ben McLachlan has entered the US Open.

The Queenstown doubles specialist will team with regular partner Luke Bambridge for the event in New York.

The Grand Slam has a reduced draw — only 32 doubles teams have been accepted, as opposed to 64.

Of those, 28 pairings have been confirmed — the 28 highest combined ranked players — while four wildcard spots remain open.

McLachlan and Bambridge’s 110 ranking leaves them 24th on the list, the pair ranked 58th and 52nd in the world respectively.

The duo began playing together last year and reached the US Open quarterfinals in their first Grand Slam together.

It was one of three runs McLachlan has made at Grand Slam tournaments, having also reached the Australian Open semifinals and Wimbledon quarterfinals.

While many top players have withdrawn from the singles event, the doubles field looks competitive.

The world’s top two players — Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Chabal — are the No 1 seeded pairing.

Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, tied for fifth in the world, will also pair up.
