Request deferred
During the public forum, Brighton Bowling Club president John Finlayson outlined a request for $1000 towards buying a defibrillator, citing a tight budget, increased subscriptions and an ageing membership.
Members queried 24/7 public access and deferred a decision, asking the club to return with a plan covering accessibility, maintenance, training and other funding before the next board considers the application.
Funds for protectors
Ōtokia Creek and Marsh Habitat Trust sought support for plant protectors.
Trust member Viktoria Kahui said the protectors were vital to help native species survive on the marsh.
Board member Dr Pim Allen discussed past accountability, saying a previous grant that was expected to fund a community rest area was used elsewhere.

Dr Kahui acknowledged that the nature of a previous grant had changed and committed to tighter reporting in future.
The board approved a grant of $500 towards plant protectors for the trust.
Clubs and parks
Members discussed the Sports Facilities Plan adopted recently by the Dunedin City Council.
Board member Scott Weatherall asked about potential impacts on clubs, such as leasing charges or ground fees.
Senior officer Anna Nilsen said the next part of the review would not explore costs; that would be further down the track.
The board approved a recommendation to install a portable toilet at the Island Park Reserve car park for a trial period.
Picnic table move proposed

Work was progressing on potentially moving it about 200m, but agreement still had to be reached with affected homeowners.
Members requested contractors mow and maintain the Waldronville–Kaikorai Estuary walkway.
The board asked the council to investigate the cost of moving an underutilised picnic table near by what was known as the former Ocean View fish and chip shop to the Dicksons Rd lay-by.
Value of community boards
Cr Kevin Gilbert reflected on the value of the board’s civil defence work during emergencies, advocacy on facilities and coastal erosion and the workload carried by chairman Mr Weir. He acknowledged the work of departing board members and highlighted how he had come to appreciate the importance of community boards during this triennium.
Acknowledging contribution
Mayor Jules Radich expressed his thanks and presented certificates recognising service by Christina McBratney (2016–2025), Keith McFadyen (2003–2025) and Scott Weatherall (2004–2025).
The board formally recorded its thanks to each retiring member.
