A record 3778 participants hit the road to take part in Emerson’s Dunedin Marathon on Sunday.
The full marathon winners were Dan Hayman, of Dunedin, in 2hr 39min 48sec and Hannah Oldroyd, of Canterbury, in 2hr 53min 47sec.
The women’s half marathon winner was Clara Fergus, of Canterbury, in 1hr 21min 53sec and the men’s winner was Logan Griffin, of Canterbury, in 1hr 10min 23sec.
Race director Becs Adlam said there were so many standout performances on the day and it was always hard to single out just one.
"Especially when for some, simply crossing the finish line is a personal victory."
"That said, watching Dan Hayman cross the line and then presenting him with his winner’s prize pack was a particularly special moment."
At 21 years old and in his marathon debut, the University of Otago student took out the men’s title, pushing through tough headwinds for much of the course.
The Star reporters Sam Henderson and Brenda Harwood were on the course capturing the day’s action.
