Two gorgeous Maine Coon cats were the stars of the show at Sunday’s Southern Cross All Breeds Cat Club Show, held at Taieri Bowling Club in Mosgiel.

While Vladimir Guinness, owned by breeder Vicki Walls, of Rangiora, was winning the Overall Supreme All Breeds winner and Silver Double Grand Premier winner prizes, his amazingly relaxed brother "Nigel" (Vladimir Limerick) was attracting a crowd of fans in "Jason’s Cuddle Corner".

Southern Cross All Breeds Cat Club Show vice-president and cat show manager Robyn Broughton said the response to the Cuddle Corner, a new feature for the show, had been "incredible — we had people lining up to meet and pat the cats".

Mrs Broughton said the show had been very popular, attracting up to 1400 people keen to view the 75 cats entered in the competition, with breeds ranging from the fluffy Maine Coons, Ragdolls and Persians, to the slinky Siamese and Burmese and the adorable Devon Rex.

The shows judges, including Australian judge Sue Thomas, New Zealand judges Sue Ford, Roy Griffiths, and David Crymble, along with trainee judge Trudy Taylor, of Dunedin, had been thoroughly impressed by the high quality of the cats entered.

The cat show is the main annual fundraiser for the Southern Cross All Breeds Cat Club, with proceeds going towards the expenses of running the show each year.
