Emily Woolsey has been dairy farming for the past 10 years with her husband, Daniel, and she is now swapping her gumboots for pen and paper, taking on the role of Dairy Women's Network (DWN) Gore regional group convener.

The pair are in their fourth season sharemilking 1100 cows near Gore and have a 50% equity share in a farm at Fortrose.

Their two sons, Carter (3) and Jack (4), make the Woolseys a true farming family.

Mrs Woolsey has been involved with DWN for the past four years and took over the role of regional group convener in September.

Being new to the Gore area, she started attending DWN meetings as a way of meeting new people. Taking on the role of convener, her core responsibilities revolve around organising both social and educational days for the Gore DWN group.

Some of the days DWN Gore holds are run along with Invercargill and Mrs Woolsey said it was a great opportunity to meet other women.

She also attends other industry events and works with both Dairy NZ and Ballance, which are DWN's main networking partners.

The Gore group has about 180 members, who come from Eastern and Northern Southland as well as West Otago.

Nationally there are about 6000 members.

''I'm looking forward to meeting and encouraging new members to come along and helping to support them in their dairy roles.

''I am also looking forward to facilitating some group days. It is really exciting what modules are coming up.''

Mrs Woolsey said she was in the process of organising the group's Christmas event and was also looking forward to next year's national conference in Invercargill.

''If people want to join, they can join on our website or like our Facebook page to see what is going on.''
