The Waikato Times, will switch from being an afternoon paper to a morning publication in September.
It moved the Saturday edition to morning in 2003 and will now do the same with its weekday editions from Monday, September 5.
Editor Jonathan MacKenzie said the paper was responding to changing reading habits. Afternoon newspapers around the world were being squeezed by a number of factors, including the rising consumption of news online, he said.
The Waikato Times was established in Ngaruawahia in 1872 and shifted to Hamilton in 1875. It was first published as an evening paper after it was bought by James Shiner Bond in 1896.
