A climber has been airlifted to hospital after slipping down 100 metres of ice on Mount Ruapehu today.
YouthTown Rescue Helicopter was called to the mountain about midday today after two climbers slipped about 100 metres on ice on the south face of the mountain.
The climbers, who were part of a group of 10, were then airlifted to the Turoa ski field, where a female was treated for abdominal injuries, pilot Todd Dunham said.
A 20-year-old man was then airlifted to Rotorua Hospital with head and abdominal injuries.
