Regaling the crowd with an historical anecdote at the Garrison Club last night is former staff sergeant with the 1st Otago Southland Regiment Maurice Angelo, of Dunedin.

The event featured current and former soldiers, along with cadets.

Warrant Officer Class 2  Dion Beker said in 1979, as part of an army restructure, the 4th Otago Southland Regiment took over command as the region’s first point of
call for anything military-related, ranging from requests for assistance in civil defence to supporting local councils.
