Dozens of children and their families kept dry and under cover during a messy Easter Saturday.

More than 70 children attended Musselburgh Baptism Church’s Easter fun day on Saturday despite the squally and inclement weather.

Organiser Jo Knowles said while the event was largely held indoors because of the weather, there were enough activities for all the children, including egg-and-spoon races and sack races, Easter biscuit icing, Easter egg decoration and making decorations. There were enough sausages on the barbecue to feed the hungry, too.

‘‘This is our third year running our Easter event.

‘‘We’ve been running it for the last three years, and I think probably this year was possibly the biggest crowd we’ve had, given most of our young people are away at Easter camp. So a lot of our young ones who were here last year are older now, so they’ve gone off to camp.’’

The day fostered a sense of community, she said.

‘‘I think it’s just to be able to have some good family fun and activity that’s free in the community for Easter. I think just a connection with the church about what the story of Easter is —that can only be a good thing.

‘‘We had a quiz which was related to the Stations of the Cross, which everybody could enter a prize at the end to win a voucher and some Easter goodies.’’
