Sooner, rather than later, the DCC wil reduce the number of parking spaces to a level where people will just drive right on through Dunedin because they can't find a park.
Dunedin shoppers will will probably start doing their grocery shopping in Balclutha because they'll use less petrol getting there and back than what they would cruising around town trying to find a park ... and if one should be so lucky to find a space in a parking building, they'll have to pay exorbitant fees or risk being clamped ... or if it's some Aussie outfit running the place, they'll get both !!
I'd actually like to see the Council erect some hitching posts around grassed areas such as in front of the railway station, so that I can ride my horse into town or bring the buggy if I have a long shoping list. Hitching up the horse should be free and owners who's horses make "deposits" on the grassed areas, should be able to send the Council an account for organic fertiliser at $10 a Kg.
I really think the Council needs to look at seriously at impact on both small business and the general public. I also get the feeling that it's not all about "safety" and more about revenue gathering.
This is what appears to be driving Dunedin 'Local and regional governments across the ICLEI network are committed to building a sustainable urban future.' which Hawkins is on an executive Committee for, I couldn't find it on his resume, why has he hidden the fact and not disclosed it to the people he works for. Did Dunedin openly buy into these changes, I assumed he was just a puppet for Cull and the Greens, it appears he is a puppet to a bigger global organisation, the wants to change the world. Its time to go...............Hawkins
Good to see the work of the mentally insane is still happening these people need help and should in a special facility.
