Adding another bucket of rubbish to the pile during a Sea Shepherd Dunedin clean-up at Otago Harbour near the Harbour Mouth Molars is event organiser Ludo Dutoit.

Straws, polystyrene and plastic food packaging were among the about 250 litres of rubbish collected from the Otago Harbour foreshore on Saturday.

About 15 people took part in the two-hour clean-up, including

Katy Rossiter (22, left) and Lara Robertson (31), who pulled rubbish from between the rocks.

Mr Dutoit said places often looked clean until you looked a little harder.

"We want to keep Dunedin clean.

"We want to keep our coastlines clean for us and for the animals we share it with."

It was also a good educational activity as it showed people just how much garbage humans generated, he said.

"If everyone picked three pieces of rubbish off the beach every time they go there, our coastline would be a lot cleaner."

It would have been a good opportunity to remove the unsightly teeth as well.
