Farewell to high times; stars say time nigh

Where in the world will we all be in late 2012?According to famed astronomer Nostradamus, there may be no world left - that was the theory behind a fascinating documentary, Nostradamus 2012 that screened on Sky's History Channel last Sunday night.

It may not be the most glamorous subject matter but gee, it was a thoroughly absorbing watch.

I know we're in a recession but, gosh, did we really need to know that the future is, well, not looking too flash, just quietly.

In fact, as the clock ticks down, we have roughly three and a-half years to get our house in order.

The Frenchman Nostradamus died almost 500 years ago - centuries and a world away from the year 2012 - but over that time, he has foreseen major events in the world, politics, inventions, science.

His verses, or quatrains, contain details and writings that some say predict what has already happened and, more importantly for us all, what lies ahead, especially over the next three and a-half years.

The recent finding of his lost book reveals a host of events and happenings that Nostradamus believed would strike the Earth in the year 2012.

Using his knowledge of the stars, the sun and the heavens, he has accurately predicted many and the coming three years are leading to a major shift in the planet's history - something called the galactic alignment.

Whatever it is, Nostradamus knows one thing - it is seriously bad news for the planet.

No matter whether you believe what he had to say or dismiss it as outright rubbish, it is hard to ignore Nostradamus - he has been right too often.

It was a documentary that left some unanswered questions but left the viewer with an unsettling feeling.

Then, at the very end, came a glimmer of optimism - the future of the world is in our hands.

I felt a bit ripped off, to be honest.

Here they were saying Nostradamus was predicting doom and gloom is in our future; then we get told we might be able to avoid that if we wake up our ideas now.

It felt like Al Gore had sneaked into the writer's room and added some of his own personal touches to the script.

Don't miss: The Investigator, TV1, Wednesdays, 9.30pm: Bryan Bruce takes a closer look at some of this country's most notorious crimes to see if the courts got it right.

An earlier series was quite mesmerising and the lineup of cases to go under his microscope this series looks like another must-see.

Don't bother: Close-up, TV1, 7pm, weeknights: This is only because I cannot stand Mark Sainsbury.

Talk about a talent-free zone.
