'Gran Turismo Sport' release delayed

'Gran Turismo Sport' has been delayed until 2017.

Developer Polyphony Digital broke the news on the PlayStation Blog, where studio founder Kazunori Yamauchi said the team needs "more time to perfect 'GT Sport'".

He wrote: "As we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we've already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title.

"We do not want to compromise the experience in any way. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date."

Kazunori described 'GT Sport' as one of its most ambitious undertakings due to the use of the "latest technologies, such as physics-based rendering and sound simulations".

The Sports mode is designed to emphasise the competitive nature of the game as the studio tries to "truly invent what it means to be a racing game".

Despite the delay, the game is expected to be demonstrated at upcoming events such as Sony's PlayStation spectacle on September 7.

The company is also expected to reveal the PlayStation Neo and PlayStation 4 Slim, however this is yet to be confirmed.

'Gran Turismo Sport' will feature two-year-long championships that players can take part in, and will culminate in a ceremony where winners will celebrate alongside real-world racing champions.

'GT Sport' will be released exclusively to PlayStation 4 but it is being developed to support PlayStation VR.
