CD review: Everyday Robots

Everyday Robots
Everyday Robots
Blur frontman, Gorillaz conspirator, soundtrack/opera composer ... Damon Albarn's output comes in many guises; here, it is as contemplative solo artist as he teams with producer Richard Russell, with whom he worked on Bobby Womack's excellent The Bravest Man In The Universe.

That mix of soul grit, lo-fi drum machines and intimate vocal performances once again proves a heady stew in the right hands.

Albarn's lyric ''when you're lonely, press play'' sums up a vibe that, overall, is downbeat, although the jaunty London-Calypso vibe of Mr Tembo reveals there is plenty of power under the hood(y).
