CD review: Tribal

Tribal.
Tribal.
Rockabilly is a curious thing.

As entrenched in the '50s as it is, all it takes is for an enterprising musician to prove how utterly timeless and cool it is.

Brian Setzer and the Reverend Horton Heat are two names that instantly spring to mind. And Imelda May.

Staying utterly true to the essence of the great Gene Vincent, May's sultry voice snaps into devilish femme fatale mode as quickly as her guitar-slinging husband Darrel rifles off yet another bolt of tasty slap-back echo.

From up-tempo dance-floor stompers to menacing B-movie soundscapes, Imelda May is the queen of cool.
