CD reviews: Body Count

Music happens in climates.

And with America in disarray, the return of "The Godfather of Gangsta" and his heavy metal comrades could not be more timely.

Their first album since 2014, Bloodlust echoes Body Count’s imperious debut, with Ice-T bringing the noise via his ferocious, incendiary lyricism (No Lives Matter, Black Hoodie) amidst a searing guitar-led assault, bolstered by guests including Dave Mustaine and Max Cavalera.

Though rife with a clobbering intensity, there is a surprising eclecticism here, with keen melodic instincts, wit and introspection (the gallows-dark The Ski Mask Way), and enough rapid-fire riffage to rattle your bass cones.

• Body Count. Bloodlust. Sony.
