CD reviews: Broods

The sophomore album from Broods finds Los Angeles-based Kiwi siblings Caleb and Georgia Nott adding rather than subtracting to the recipe that made their 2014 debut, Evergreen, a compelling, ethereal listen.

Whether it has the potential to outdo breakout hit Bridges remains to be seen, although there is no shortage of melodramatic angst dressed in shiny electro-pop.

In fact, it's just a little too polished, an approach that only serves to expose how light the album is on real hooks and/or depth.

Take Heartlines, which eschews dark rumination for a light swooning that is repeated in various tracks, including Hold The Line, We Had Everything and Full Blown Love.
