The sounds of summer are all around. But what are the musicians themselves listening to? Nigel Benson finds out.
Age: 24.
Occupation: International country/rock/pop artist.
What type of music to you listen to most on the road and why?
I listen to mostly country rock/pop, because it is the genre of music I perform as a recording artist. It is the style I feel I can relate to the most on all sorts of levels and it certainly turns a long drive into a short one for me.
It's a good time for me to keep up with the ever-changing trends in modern country music and emerging artists. It is also the perfect time for gaining inspiration for my own songwriting. I also listen to straight rock and pop tunes on the road to mix it up a little. I really do love all sorts of music.
What songs will be on your turntable/CD player/iPod this summer?
Anything fresh out of Nashville and also the hottest pop/rock tunes this summer. Must-haves include Florida Georgia Line (hot newish country duo out of the US), Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Pistol Annies, The Band Perry and Jake Owen.
What is the album you recommend?
At the moment I am really loving Miranda Lambert's most recent album Four the Record. More for easy listening.
What is your perfect summer music scenario?
On the beach at Lake Wanaka, boats parked up after a long day water-skiing, with the BBQ going, lamb chops, portable stereo, good company and a good whisky in hand.
