Whether you take the high road or the low road on the Peninsula there's plenty to discover. Portabello Road follows the foreshore en route to Portabello with its sea aquarium, and beyond to the wildlife splendour at Tairoa Head. The journey takes you through Macandrew Bay-ideal spot for a glass of wine, some art appreciation and gift shopping, and Broad Bay- check out the China Shop; you won't have seen anything like it!
Highcliffe Road runs across the top of the Peninsula and can be approached from either Portabello or from the city. It offers commanding views over the harbour and out to the heads and will lead you to Larnach Castle, New Zealand's only castle.
If there is one thing you need to do these holidays, it is explore the rugged beauty that sits on the door step to Dunedin city.
