Five charged over 'minor' offences

Police arrested five people for alleged "minor" offences in Wanaka and Lake Hawea on Tuesday night.

Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said the 2500-strong crowd at the Lake Hawea Hotel concert were well-behaved.

Police made one arrest at Hawea during the concert - a 22-year-old Dunedin man who was found in breach of his bail conditions, Snr Sgt Grindell said.

Generally, Wanaka experienced a quiet time leading into New Year's Eve, he said.

Four people were arrested in the resort on Tuesday night.

A 25-year-old Australian woman was charged with offensive behaviour, a 27-year-old Wanaka man was charged with trespass and two 20-year-old men, one from Christchurch and the other from Timaru, were charged with disorderly behaviour, Snr Sgt Grindell said.

The incidents were all considered to be "relatively minor offending", he said.

• Roxburgh police believe at least two people were involved in the burglary of about $4500 worth of tools from a property in the town this week.

Senior Constable Jape Wanoa said an assortment of tools, including socket sets, battery chargers, drills, screwdriver sets and panel-beating equipment, were stolen.

Some were in a large "heavy duty" tool box which would take two people to lift.

The owners of the Teviot St home had been away from December 24 to December 28 and the tools were taken from a double garage detached from the house.

"It would've taken a wee while for the offenders to gather up all those different tools and the burglary could have been done in daylight," Snr Const Wanoa said.

Two vehicles were seen near the property earlier this week - a light-coloured sedan and a red vehicle, possibly a 4WD or light truck.Police arrested five people for alleged "minor" offences in Wanaka and Lake Hawea on Tuesday night.
