Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of US Vogue, has been made a dame by the Queen for services to fashion and journalism.

Wintour, who was born in Britain, has been at the helm of the magazine for almost 30 years - a reign that has made her one of the most influential voices in high-end fashion.

The 67-year-old told reporters the Queen had struggled to pin her award to her clothing at the ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday.

"She couldn't find where to put the brooch," she told the BBC.

Known for her cool demenaour on fashion show front rows, Wintour smiled broadly after the ceremony in London, which she attended with her daughter Bee Shaffer.
