Rippon Vineyard in Wanaka is doing a special bottling of its 2006 Sagesse Pinot Noir to support the Red Cross Christchurch earthquake appeal.
The wine was produced from one barrel of the oldest vines from the block now known as Tinkers Field.
Back in 2006, they did not feel the parcel as a whole was ready to be bottled separately, but the old vines had a distinctive voice even then, according to vigneron Nick Mills.
"These wines spoke with a wisdom, what the French call sagesse and we bottled them separately in large-format jeroboam and magnum (14 and 60 bottled, respectively)."
All bottles will have labels drawn straight on to the bottle by Mills and will come in wooden presentation boxes.
The Sagesse 2006 in magnum (1.5 litres) will be $245 and the jeroboam (3 litres) $490, with all the proceeds going to the Red Cross earthquake appeal.
On Sunday March 13 Riverstone Kitchen will be holding a special "Sunday for Christchurch" day from 9am-5pm.
Bevan and Monique Smith, who own the restaurant north of Oamaru will donate 100% of all takings to the Christchurch earthquake appeal and staff will donate their wages for the cause.
Bookings are essential as they are expecting a huge turnout.
