Freebies: Fabulous flowers

'Choisya ternata'
'Choisya ternata'
For fragrant foliage and fabulous flowers look no further than Choisya ternata, commonly known as Mexican orange blossom.

This hardy evergreen shrub, with glossy dark green leaves, has clusters of white flowers from late spring to early summer.

Hailing from Mexico, it is a shrub for all gardens - big or small - from coastal to high country, although being hardy to about minus 9degC it may need some winter protection in parts of Central Otago.

This star performer is a wonderful choice for gap-filling and hedging.

In an expansive garden, Choisya ternata can be planted in clusters for effect, but in a small garden or courtyard, a single specimen makes a stunning focal point.

Although naturally forming a dome shape, Choisya ternata will grow to 2m by 1.5m.

• In conjunction with Garden Solutionz, we have three Choisya ternata, valued at $18.99 each, to give away. To be in the draw, send your name and address on the back of an envelope to Orange Blossom Giveaway, Otago Daily Times, Response Bag 500011, Dunedin, or email playtime@odt.co.nz with Orange Blossom in the subject line, to arrive before Thursday November 20.
