A taxi driver who stabbed a female student in the face and dumped her at a bus stop in Queensland's far north has been handed a life jail sentence for murder.
Andreas Mueller, 52, pleaded guilty in Queensland Supreme Court in Cairns today to murdering 21-year-old Erica Liddy in April last year.
The court was told Mueller picked up Ms Liddy from Cairns and agreed to take her to her friend's house, but on the way she asked to be taken to his house.
While she slept, he stabbed her beneath the eye with a butter knife.
He eventually took her to a bus stop at Freshwater, but only after sleeping and working another shift in his cab, the court was told.
Mueller called triple-0, but did not wait for the ambulance to arrive at the bus stop. Ms Liddy died in hospital three days later.
Justice Jim Henry sentenced Mueller to life in prison, with a non-parole period of 15 years.
