A 17-year-old has been charged over a home invasion in which a man was attacked with an axe in Sydney's southwest.
Police said that in the early hours of September 18 last year three males entered a house in Auburn armed with an axe and allegedly threatened a 26-year-old man and 25-year-old woman inside and demanded money.
Police say one of the males attacked the 26-year-old with the blade of the axe, causing injuries to his head.
The intruders then fled with stolen items.
The victim was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition and was released two months later. A large chunk of the man's skull and forehead were removed along with a tooth.

On Wednesday this week police arrested a 17-year-old at a home in Sefton in Sydney's west and charged him with two counts of concealing a serious indictable offence in relation to the home invasion, and knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime.
On Wednesday evening police executed a search warrant at the teen's home, allegedly finding 12 cannabis plants.
The 17-year-old presented himself to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant and two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.
He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Children's Court on April 18.
Inquiries are continuing into the third person involved in the attack.
