The Petrie family (from left) Kieran (5), Caitlyn (8), Alison and Tony cosy up under polyester insulation of the type installed in their Corstorphine, Dunedin, house.

Their house was the 100th ''Warm Dunedin'' home and the family received flowers and LED bulbs from Dunedin city councillor Teresa Stevenson to mark the occasion.

Warm Dunedin provides rates advances from the council for Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority-approved insulation and heating products.

Mrs Petrie, who has health problems, said in winter their home was so cold she wore a beanie to bed, but since the insulation had been installed the house was much warmer.

''It's incredible. It only takes 1 minute to warm up with the heat pump in the morning.''

So far, the council had received 157 applications for funding under the scheme, the majority in Dunedin city, with 87 for insulation, 38 for insulation and heating and 32 for heating only.
