About 130 people, including some in prams and a few in wheelchairs, took part in a Dunedin walk yesterday to raise funds to counter motor neurone disease.

The Dunedin Walk 2 D’Feet MND 2017, part of a national series of walks, proved positive and a change of venue was also successful, organiser Kim Timperley said.

Bad weather and the need to cross several streets at the previous Andersons Bay venue had posed some challenges last year.

But better weather and a switch to John Wilson Ocean Dr proved successful this year, and valuable support was also provided by a sponsor, the Pirates Rugby Football Club.

The event went "really well" and the rain  held off until everyone had completed the walk, she said.

A charity auction was held at the Pirates premises before the morning walk.

About $10,000 was raised at the Dunedin event last year, and about $4000 had  been raised so far this year, with some more money to come in.

The Walk 2 D’Feet MND is the annual fundraiser for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand (MND New Zealand).
