The $2.5 million expansion of Dunedin company Palmers Mechanical, in Neptune St, Dunedin, is nearing completion.

Company manager Craig Stringer said it was estimated construction would be completed in early April, allowing the company to keep up with growing demand for its products from the Australian mining industry.

The new workshop would be used predominantly for the construction of large mobile mixing units, which were attached to trucks and used to carry raw materials for explosives directly to blasting sites at Australian mines, he said.
