8 is great for birthday boy

Friday will be an exciting day for Dunedin boy Cameron Bradley (pictured), as he celebrates his 8th birthday on the 8th day of the 8th month of 2008.

The fact that Friday is also the day the Beijing Olympics opens is the icing on the birthday cake.

The St Patrick's School pupil and keen junior football player with Dunedin's Melchester club 8th-grade team plans a celebration at home on Friday afternoon with his mum Nikki, sister Anika (6) and some mates, before going out in the evening with his dad Darren.

Also, Ms Bradley has a surprise waiting for Cameron at the weekend in acknowledgement of the special day.

‘‘He's such a lucky boy to have such a birthday, that I wanted to make it a memorable weekend,'' she said.

While Cameron is aware of the Olympics, he is unsure how many sports he will watch - apart from the football, of course.

- The date 08/08/08 was chosen by the Chinese for the opening of the 29th Olympiad because of its auspicious nature. Eight is a traditionally lucky number because of its similarity in sound to the phrase ‘‘prosperity''.
