After a pandemic-enforced absence, the Gypsy Fair has returned to Dunedin for its traditional Easter weekend visit.

The fair had set up its wares at Kensington Oval for the duration of the long weekend, and a constant stream of eager visitors were evident on Good Friday.

Fair owner Kristin Gray said the after-effects of its Covid-19-enforced shutdown meant there were fewer stalls than in previous years, but the fair was now "small and mighty".

Visitors to the fair were pleased to see it back in town, she said.

"I felt it was imperative that we get back on the road again, because we don’t want to be missing out on all these sorts of things."

There were about 16 stalls at this year’s event, and at least 10 more stallholders had signed up for next year.

Visitors could expect a variety of food, shopping and entertainment stalls, and musical acts, plus other entertainment such as belly dancers were booked for the main stage throughout the weekend.

There would also be open-mic opportunities for those who wanted to try their hand at entertaining the crowd.
