Allanton sewer system approved

Plans for a new pressure sewer system at Allanton, costing almost $1 million less than previously expected, have been welcomed by Dunedin city councillors.

The scheme received a positive reception at a public meeting in Allanton earlier this month, and was approved by councillors at this week's infrastructure services committee meeting.

The system would be commissioned in April 2011, at a cost of $2.55 million, saving the council $956,000 from an original budget of $3.5 million.

Existing residents would have to pay $4020 towards the cost, down from an estimated cost of $5940 to more than $12,000 for an earlier proposed reticulated waste water scheme.

This week's vote was subject to final approval at the next full council meeting on December 14.
