A man who was asked to move his car from blocking the road responded by allegedly pushing a woman and assaulting her husband.
Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were called to the Clyde Hill area about 9.10pm on Monday after a disagreement between two men escalated.
A 55-year-old man was driving up the road with his wife in the car when their way was blocked by another vehicle on the street, driven by a 23-year-old man.
The woman got out to ask the younger man to move his vehicle. However, the man took offence, exited his vehicle and pushed the woman.
Her husband confronted the man, who then allegedly punched him in the head, causing the older man to fall to the ground. The younger man then allegedly stomped on his leg — causing an audible "crack".
The younger man fled the scene. Inquiries to locate him were ongoing, Sgt Lee said.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said one person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
