Analogue viewers set for a shock

South Island people still watching television on analogue sets are in for a shock today.

Broadcasting Minister Craig Foss said the South Island, excluding the West Coast, would ''go digital'' today.

He said the 10% of residents not already watching TV on digital sets did not need a new TV set to go digital.

''Almost all televisions can be made digital-ready with a set-top box. If you're already watching Freeview, Sky, Igloo or TelstraClear, then you don't need to do anything because you're already watching digital TV.''

Information about the digital switchover is available on the website Going Digital.
