The Armed Offenders Squad was called to a South Dunedin house last night.
In a statement, a police spokeswoman said the squad and Police Negotiation Team were deployed to resolve the situation.
A man had locked himself in the house and made a number of threats.
The man was arrested without incident and charged for assaulting a woman.
He appeared in Dunedin District Court today and was remanded in custody.
