A 32-year-old man was taken into custody after police were called to a home in Joe Brown Ave just before 2pm.
A police spokeswoman said the AOS was called out as a precaution and the man was taken into custody without incident.
He was taken to the Dunedin Central Police Station where he remained in custody, the spokeswoman said.
A resident of Joe Brown Ave who did not want to be named said she saw armed police walking around the property.
She later saw two people, one male and one female, tackled to the ground and handcuffed.
It was another 20 minutes before residents were allowed back into the street, she said.
