Appeal on lpg succeeds

The LPG Association of New Zealand Ltd has successfully appealed parts of a decision on changes to the Dunedin City Council's storage of dangerous goods policy.

The association appealed to the Environment Court the council's decision on Plan Change 13 - Hazardous Substances.

Its main concern was how much lpg could be stored in which zones.

Port Otago Ltd and Anthony Parata were parties to the appeal, which was resolved by consent memorandum between the parties.

The main changes as a result of the appeal relate to differentiating between the amounts of lpg that can be stored indoors and outdoors and generally increasing in most zones the amount of lpg that can be stored outdoors.

The council's new rules around hazardous substances can now be fully operative.
