Firefighters from the Willowbank Fire Station extinguished a fire in an armchair in Howe St, North Dunedin, last night.
Two other incidents were also linked to the 9.30pm fire: a young man attempted to climb on a fire appliance in the area and was taken home and referred to the University of Otago proctor, emergency services officials said.
Another person, believed to have set the chair on fire, allegedly assaulted a Campus Watch officer and ran off into the Dunedin Botanic Garden.
Inquiries were continuing, police said.
