Allied Press website Drivesouth was one of up to 20 across the country brought down by a power outage in Lower Hutt yesterday.
Drivesouth was offline for four hours yesterday afternoon as technicians battled to repair the problem, which had knocked out the servers hosting it.
Allied Press commercial manager Matthew Holdridge said the problem was very frustrating on "a huge day for New Zealand motorsport", with Scott Dixon winning the Indy 500.
"It was a rare occurrence but could have been worse."
