Parts of Otago and Southland were drenched by rain at the weekend.
MetService stations recorded 50mm of rain at Leith Saddle across Saturday and yesterday and 49mm of rain in Toko Mouth, near Milton.
However, MetService meteorologist Samkelo Magwala said the rain had started easing off and there would only be some isolated showers in areas across Otago and Southland today.
Mr Magwala said the good news was a ridge was building up and by Wednesday there would be some sunshine in the South and temperatures would gradually increase.
"Otago and Southland will be cloud free on Wednesday," he said.
Invercargill was expected to have days upwards of 20°C and Dunedin should exceed that mark on Wednesday.
In Alexandra, there would be a minimum temperature of 7°C tomorrow and a minimum of 8°C on Wednesday before it shot up to a 24°C day on Thursday.
Mr Magwala warned a cold front was on its way next weekend, so people should make the most of the sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday.

An NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi spokesman said heavy rainfall led to the flooding and closure of SH90 between Tapanui and Waikoikoi in Otago yesterday evening.
A detour was in place through Station Rd, Seddon Hill Rd and Koi Rd.
An update on the road closure was expected this morning.
A slip also closed part of SH6 between Lake Hāwea and Makarora on Saturday.
An NZTA spokesman said the road was closed for several hours in the morning as crews worked to clear rocks and debris.
Motorists were asked to take care travelling through the area.
Further work would need to be carried out at the site, planned for this morning, the spokesman said.
It was likely a lane would be closed and that might mean short delays, stopping on demand and a temporary reduced speed limit.
