Body found in burning car

Police have yet to identify a body found in a burning car at Taieri Ferry Road, north of Waihola, this morning.

Police say they are investigating to determine whether there are any suspicious circumstances.

The body was discovered when volunteer fire-fighters were called to a car on fire about 6.30am.

Taieri Ferry Rd has been cordoned off while police examine the scene.

ESR experts from Christchurch are expected to examine the scene tomorrow.

Police would like to hear from anyone who might have seen a Red Ford Focus hatchback travelling on State Highway One between the Henley Berwick Road and Titri Road in the early hours of this morning
