Brian, the kune kune pig from Maheno, who was bought by a group of students in August this year and taken to a new home in a Dunedin flat, has found grassy paddocks and plenty of space for rooting up the ground in her summer holiday spot, Stoneycroft farm in Pine Hill.
University of Otago medical student Simon Rankin, of Invercargill, masters student Brendon Harper, of Balclutha, and their two flatmates decided to buy a flat pet.
Deciding against chickens, they headed to Maheno and bought the pig off a farmer called Brian.
That gave them the name for their female pet, who promptly dug up the ground in the backyard of their flat and developed a cult following among the neighbouring flats.
"People would see us and ask us how Brian was - they wouldn't bother asking how we were," Mr Rankin said.
The day an article appeared in the Otago Daily Times about Brian, the flatmates were approached by the university proctor saying a university staff member wanted to offer Brian a home for the summer.
"We are 100% about that," Mr Rankin said.
The flatmates took Brian for walks on the beach, fed her scraps and let her visit the neighbours.
They plan to pick up Brian at the end of summer and take her to their new flat, in the centre of Dunedin.
Or if that fails, to let her run to her heart's content in the fields of Pine Hill.
